July 2010 Newsletter
The regular scheduled meeting was held Tuesday July 13, 2010, 7:00 PM at Home Plate Diner 82nd Street and Slide Road. Several members and guest were in attendance.
Not much news of chapter business was discussed, so we talked and scheduled several rides for the upcoming weeks. We did talk about possibly having some type of charity event for the First Responders Memorial which is now located at the old Godeke Library at 66th Street and Quaker Avenue. We would like to get our poker run started back up. There has been talk by local non-Blue Knight riders who wish we still had the poker run. We understand we can not have a “game of chance” associated with the ride, but we can get around the current enforcement (interpretation) of the law by having a “game of skill.” We would have the event around September 11th every year. A golf tournament could be added next year. We need input and your opinion on this ideal. Some of the chapter officers are meeting with representatives of the First Responders Memorial on Monday, July 19, 2010.
Several rides were scheduled.
- Sonic Sunday, July 18, 2010. Meet at the Fast Stop, 7822 82nd Street, leave at 3:00 PM and ride to Lemesa.
- Dinner Ride, July 24, 2010. Meet at the Chisum Travel Center, 2611 East Slaton Road, leave at 3:30 PM and ride to Spur or Dickens and eat supper.
- Biker Sunday and Blessing of the Bikes Sunday, July 25, 2010, Wilson Methodist Church, Wilson, Texas. Proceeds to benefit Children’s Church Camp Fund, and building fund. There will be music, door prizes. Lunch is provided. Registration begins at 9:00 AM. Service begins at 9:45 AM. There is a $15 registration. This is sponsored by the VFW Motorcycle Group Unit 13.
- Breakfast Ride, July 26, 2010. Meet at Stripes, 19th Street and Milwaukee Avenue, leave at 8:00 AM and ride to Levelland and eat breakfast.
- Breakfast Ride, August 2, 2010. Eat at Rudy’s, 4930 South Loop, 8:00 AM. Eat then go on a ride.
There are several rallies coming up. Several members will be going to the “Bikers, Blues, & BBQ” rally in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It is scheduled for September 29 to October 2, 2010. The “Golden Aspen Rally” in Ruidoso, New Mexico is scheduled for September 15 to 19, 2010. Bavarian Mountain Weekend, Sipapu ski area, New Mexico is scheduled for September 10 to 12, 2010.
